My New Custom Bathroom Sink

               Project        April 2004

As you remember in my April 2004 e-News letter, I noted that I was the ‘sculptress of whim’.

That a 50 cent rubber washer, and faucet drip started this project to redo my bathroom sink. This is what the sink area looked like after I removed the old counter top.

Now, how to fill in the space between the toilet water closet and the wall on the far side...

This is another view of the old cabinet, which will be reused as a base for the counter top.

As you note, this a substantial wooden counter top, 2 inch thick.  I happened to find this scrap wood at home depot, and glued the two pieces together, a cost of $3.50

The center hole was traced from my sink design, and the left end is rounded in a nice flowing arc.  By using a large piece of paper, I traced the outline, so I could design how I wanted the tiles to look on the counter top.

Ah, you say.  You are not using store bought tiles.  You are very observant, GrassHopper. By using the large paper tile outline, I rolled out a piece of flat clay, and traced the

design onto the clay, cut the clay, and fired the pieces as my new tiles, to be glazed the color to match my new sink.

More pictures of the sink, to lend a little flair to your imagination…a Whim!
