E-News from Joyce I
have had a very busy year in 2003. As
many of you know, that have visited the studio, I started the year with a
big “bang”. Not the
theory, but literally on Super Bowl Sunday.
I took flying lessons. While
my husband only scored my flight as a 3 out of a possible 10, the degree
of difficulty was very high. The
flight I do not remember, nor the actual landing, just that I had driven
my cute little blue Honda motorcycle head on into a cute little white
Acura, some place in Rancho Santa Fe. I
was back at work in my studio by the end of the week, leg in a cast, and
me in a wheelchair. I consider myself very fortunate to have the loyal
members of my family, clients who stopped by to massage my emotional
wellbeing, and the community and students.
It has taken almost 11 months to get to the point of getting back
on the Argentine Tango dance floor, but I have gained many attributes and
other talents in the mean time. My regular morning trips to the swimming
pool continued as soon as I was able to master those crutches.
Without the swim fins and the use of my legs, my upper body looks
like…. Not really, but I do
feel a lot stronger. Enough
about me, and more about you, and your needs for beauty, comfort, and
peace of mind through art. I
have started this email newsletter to provide a regular outlet on what has
happened, happening, or about to happen.
If you find this letter enjoyable, let me know to put you on my
mail list. If not let me know
to take you off. Your choice. I
also plan to post, and update this letter on my web site, which is back up
and running. To begin, I expect a new letter about every 6-8 weeks, or if
I get too busy, at least every 3 months. Website Updates I
am up and running again. I
had the site moved from one service to another and lost all of the photos
and links to make it work effectively.
But now it is back and still being updated.
My email is working, so if you do not feel like picking up the
telephone, drop me a line. As
many of you know, I am not very computer literate, so hubby takes care of
all of those details. Some
of the new features of the site include: 1.
My video of the studio.
It shows many of my pieces of work, the studio, and of course me. 2.
A section listing the studio
galleries. The
galleries reflect the various types of my work.
The gift gallery,
for instance, shows a selection of thumbnail photos of the art pieces that
are smaller, and can be shipped easily.
The custom gallery
displays many of the custom art works that were commissioned by
individuals or businesses, with a brief story of each piece. The other
galleries show larger pieces that would fit in their own individual
setting in your home or business. I
plan to feature individual galleries in subsequent letters. 3.
Other sections are still
being developed, so please check back often.
For instance in the news
section, I have posted photos of an exhibit at Artisan’s Lair in Long
Beach, this past fall. Which
reminds me to ask, if you have photos of your favorite piece of my art
that you might like to share and display on my site, please feel free to
send them. You
can locate my web site by typing or clicking on www.artisticfountains-byjoyce.com
or www.sculptures-byjoyce.com.
The Studio and Gallery During the last 6 months many changes have taken place. The flooring in the entrance gallery was redone. I have taken a barren painted floor, and tiled it, with an artistic mosaic design, utilizing some of my custom tiles, and glass tiles from Oceanside Glass Tile company. The entrance wall was repainted so that an art piece can be highlighted in it’s own setting. |

Home: Artistic Tiles As
mentioned in the section above, the tile industry is making great strides
into the art and decorative designs for the home and office.
About two years ago, Oceanside
Glass Tile company, Carlsbad, CA., contacted me to create custom molds
and design more abstract concepts to expand their client and distribution
base. Some of my work is now
starting to be produced for selected clients, as well as working with
selected custom projects. Oceanside Glass Tile is one of the few large glass tile
companies able to distribute worldwide.
You can visit their site at www.glasstile.com.
Many
of you have noticed my custom tiles highlighting window trim, and gallery
entrances. A local retailer
has asked me to consider doing a small line of ceramic tiles. More later. If
you have visited Home Depot’s Home Expo store displaying all of the
kitchen, and bathroom display sets featuring tile as an accent and
functual decoration then you may have recognized Oceanside Glass tile, and
the uses of tiles to update and modernize the functional areas of the
house. This seems to be a
home improvement and decorating trend.
A little attention to detail can add so much for that
individualized home touch. |
